It’s a baby girl for Bode and Morgan Miller. After spreading the word for the last couple of years on child pool safety, the couple made this announcement last week.
Our hearts really go out to this couple. I know that we’ve discussed this couple’s difficulties several times after their 19-month-old baby girl’s accidental drowning in 2018, but they have really helped the water safety industry since that tragic accident. Morgan says this will probably be her last pregnancy.
It’s a Growing Family
Since their marriage, this is their sixth child together. Their oldest is son, Nash, who is 6. Then, there is Easton,2, and 18-month-old twin son Asher and Askel. Emmy had been their lone 19-month-old daughter who died in that drowning accident. Bode, a one-time Olympic skier is also father to daughter Dace, 13, and son Nate, 8, from previous relationships.
“We told them on St. Patrick’s Day,” the soon-to-be mom of six recalled. “I planned an elaborate scavenger hunt, and at the end of each clue was their pot of gold, and their pot of gold had a little treat plus a word, and they all had to pull their words out, and mix them together to figure out the sentence, and the sentence said, ‘Another baby Miller, coming November 2021.’ They were first completely shocked.”
This is the couple’s first baby girl after losing their baby Emmy in that horrific drowning accident in 2018. That accident “shook” both Bode and Morgan.
Watch this interesting video about this news story. It was filmed just this week on the Today Show on NBC:
Since that accident, the couple have animatedly been stressing to all parents to get their children trained in water safety. That training should happen as early as possible in a child’s life.
“If your child is crawling, they should be floating”, Morgan preaches.” If your child is walking, they should be swimming”.
Experts now agree that a child can learn to float by the time they are 6-months old and swim by the time they are 1-year old.
Never Being Near Water Shouldn’t Make a Difference
Many parents don’t teach their children to swim because they don’t have a swimming pool nor do they live near water. But, that’s a mistake not to teach them water safety. If you were near the Morgan’s, they would likely tell you that is a mistake.
You never know when you might be visiting someone that own’s a home pool or lives near a lake. It only takes one time. It only takes one mistake. There is no second chance when it comes to drowning.
The Morgan’s and all of us can’t say it enough or any louder… TRAIN YOUR CHILDREN EARLY IN CHILD POOL SAFETY!
